NANNM Calls on NUC to Create More Departments of Nursing in Universities by Idowu Olabode : November 18, 2014, 04:40:18 PM
The Natioinal Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives has called on the Nigerian universities commission (NUC) to create more departments of Nursing sciences in the universities and also called on the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to ensure that all nursing education programmes are coordinated by the ministry of education.

This was contained in a Communique issued at the end of the 29th Annual Scientific Conference of the Natioinal Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Federal Health Institutions sector held at the Atlas hotel gwagwalada abuja from the 9th to 14th November 2014 with the theme "Current trends in the management of health emergencies, the role of the nurse"

The participants in session appreciated the president and commander in chief of the armed forces, federal republic of nigeria Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR and the honourable minister of health for the giant stride in containing the ebola virus outbreakin Nigeria.

The association also join  other well meaning Nigerians to condemn in totality the security challenges being experienced in some parts of the country.

The congress in session called on the fedral government and the leadership of NANNM to immortalize nurses that lost their lives in the fight to contain the ebola epidemic in the country

They also noted that government should train, equip and involve nurses in all strata of disaster management in order to ensure swift response in case of disasters or emegencies.

The chief executives of all federal health institutions should ensure the establishement of disaster response teams in their respective establishments.

Finally, the congress in session condemned in total the reluctance of government and federal ministry of health in meeting the agreed demands of JOHESU members who are presently on strike and calls on the federal government to as a matter of urgency meet all these demands in order to restore industrial harmony in the health sector.
